How to print the QR so it scans well

The QR works if the printer respects it. These 4 steps cover the most common errors that break a scannable QR.

  1. 01

    Download the QR as SVG if you'll print larger than 5x5 cm. SVG scales without pixelation at any size.

  2. 02

    Keep a white margin of at least 4 modules (1-2 mm on cards, 5-8 mm on A3 posters).

  3. 03

    Use high contrast: dark foreground on light background. If you invert colors, many readers fail.

  4. 04

    Test the QR before printing 1,000 units. Print a sample sheet and scan with 3 different phones.

  • It depends on the data type: up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters, 7,089 digits or 2,953 bytes. In practice, short URLs (under 80 characters) generate smaller QR codes that scan more reliably. Long URLs produce denser codes that are harder to read at small sizes.

  • A static QR has the data encoded inside: if you change the URL, you need a new QR. A dynamic QR encodes a short link on our server that redirects to the real destination. You change the destination from the dashboard without reprinting the QR. Dynamic QRs also show how many people scanned them.

  • Static QR codes never expire: the data is encoded and doesn't depend on any server. Dynamic QR codes depend on our redirect service. As long as your account is active, the QR works.

  • Yes, with a Pro plan. You can add a central logo, change the dot and background colors, and choose between several module shapes. Free QR codes allow changing dot and background colors.

  • PNG for web, social media and digital documents. SVG for print: it scales to any size without losing quality. If you plan to print larger than 5x5 cm, always download SVG.

  • Yes. In the generator choose URL type and enter https://wa.me/34612345678 (your number with country code, without the +). Scanning opens WhatsApp ready to message that number. To add a pre-written message append ?text=Hello%2C%20I%20am%20interested%20in%20your%20products to the URL.

  • Yes. Enter https://t.me/username for profiles or https://t.me/channel_name for public channels. Scanning opens Telegram directly on that profile or channel. For private groups, use the invite link starting with https://t.me/+.
